Thank you for reading this ‘Come ride with us’ page.
Why not visit our "Home page" for information on our range of electric bikes.
Now you have your brand new Silver E Riders bike, or maybe a bike from a different electric bike seller, you will want to get the most out of your cycling experience.
We are here to help. I know when I bought my first electric bike I wanted to ride every day and everywhere. But, I did not have a great deal of confidence in riding my new cycle on the road. Thank you Shropshire for all the cycle paths in Shrewsbury.
It had been years since I had ridden my last bike. In fact I sold my last one because I fell off it.
I had bought a brand new shiny racing bike and all the right gear for cycling and went on a cycle ride with my friends. All went well until we came back into town and I had to stop at a set of traffic lights. I gently applied the brakes and came to a smooth stop at the lights but forgot I still had my feet locked in to the pedals. Yes, you guessed it; I fell over onto the verge. Most embarrassing it was too, as a number of cars had also stopped at the red light and all I could see were lots of people smiling and laughing at my sad demise. That was it. I cycled home as fast as I could and put the bike up for sale on Ebay.
Hopefully you will not experience the same problem as I did whilst cycling.
Electric bikes from Silver E Riders have no toe clips or fancy fittings to get caught on. The reason is you don’t need them.
The electric bike has more than enough power for you to safely ride it without any toe clips etc. For easy storage all our bikes come with folding pedals.
So now you want to go out and try your new bike, but where do you go? Will I look silly riding an electric bike? How far will the battery take me? What if I run out of power?
All very good questions.
Firstly, Silver E Riders is based in Shrewsbury where we have a lot of cycle routes and pathways for cycles. We work very closely with www.cycleshropshire.co.uk who arrange a lot of cycle events in the area. If you’re not from Shrewsbury please check our links page or visit www.cycleroutesuk.com there you will find a very comprehensive list of cycle routes throughout the United Kingdom.
Secondly, no, you will not look silly. Yes the bike you ride will get a lot of attention because it is stylish and electric. So ride your new bike with pride, wear your hi-viz clothing and be noticed. Not forgetting your cycle helmet too. Remember. Be Seen, Be Safe.
Thirdly, what about the battery? How far can I go and what happens if the battery runs flat?
The battery on most Silver E Riders electric bikes are 36volt 10 amp hour batteries that will propel your cycle for approx. 20 miles on throttle power alone, even more if you use pedal assist mode. (This distance is only an approximation as the riders weight; wind speed and terrain have to be taken into account).
But if your battery does run flat, please don’t panic. You can ride your Silver E Riders bike as if it were a conventional bike. The gears, brakes and pedals work as normal, you just don’t have the assistance of the power motor. Your electric bike is heavier than a conventional cycle to ride, but you will find it a lot more stable due to the low centre of gravity of the motor and battery pack. Of course if you’re out and about at night we would suggest carrying a spare cheap set of clip on lights to get you home safely, even though Silver E Riders electric bikes come compete with 36volt front and rear LED fitted lights..
Remember. Be Seen, Be Safe.
Silver E Riders meet the third Sunday in the month (weather permitting) at 10:00am at the Obelisk, Greyfriars Bridge for a gentle "Sunday bike ride" using the cycle paths along the river or through the countryside. My wife Melanie and myself will be there to join you and answer any questions you may have about your new bike or riding it safely. So please come and join us, whether you have an electric bike or not, all are welcome. You can hire one from Silver E Riders if you want to try before you buy.
The first thing to do before you get on your new bike is to switch on the battery with the key provided.
Second, mount the cycle and sit comfortably. Then and only then, switch on the power by pressing and holding down the power button on the handlebars. This will ensure you don't accidentally turn the throttle before your ready to ride.
Select the amount of power you think you will need and set off as normal. The motor will assist you to your desired speed whilst pedaling. If you just want to use the throttle only, select full power and gently turn the throttle to achieve the speed you require. Closing the throttle will cut off the motor and you can coast to your destination, or if you still want to cycle, carry on pedalling. The motor will cut in when it is required. When either the front or rear brake is applied the power to the motor will be cut immediately, whether you are on throttle or in pedal-assist mode.
Your Silver E Riders electric bike will power you to 15.5mph, the legal limit for an electric bike in the UK. You can of course if you wish pedal faster than 15.5mph, but you will be doing that without the pedal assist of the motor. In other words you can go as fast or as slow as you want with your new electric bike.
So come and join us for a gentle bike ride. Its not a race, just a get together of like minded people who want to get a little fitter and have fun on their new electric bikes. We will be out approximately 1 to 1.5 hours finishing up back at the Obelisk. After the ride we usually stop of course for a well-earned cappuccino and teacake. We will even give you a free hi-viz vest courtesy of www.cycleshropshire.co.uk just for joining. Please go to their web site for further information.

If you don’t have an electric bike but would like to come anyway, why not hire one from Silver E Riders for a few hours and see if you like it?
I’m confident you will.
Look forward to meeting you all there.
And remember.. Be Seen, Be Safe.
